The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program, is an innovative approach to child and family support which leverages a network of partner agencies and Children’s Services to create customized support for children, youth, and families in North East Edmonton.
Ubuntu offers a continuum of culturally aligned, community-based, family and child centered services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, Ubuntu is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that leverages the expertise of five networks to meet the needs of our families, children, and youth. Entitled the C5 (Collaborative Five) – Ubuntu works collaboratively with Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents.
This position is based out of the C5’s North East Hub – 14023 Victoria Trail.

The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program is seeking a Family Support Worker; an integral role in our team, responsible for working with families to coordinate services and build relationships to achieve family goals. The Family Support Worker works directly with children and families in North East Edmonton in a shared practice model with partner agencies and Children’s Services.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Work in collaboration with family members, Child and Family Services Assessors and Caseworkers, as well as partnering community agencies to develop one service plan for the family
- Collaboratively design the service plan to include tasks assigned to specific individuals to work towards specific goals that relate to the safety of children, with an intentional consideration on Ubuntu’s four pillars (children, family, community, and culture)
- Focus time spent with family (whether a formal meeting, driving to appointments, and/or phone and text coordination and check-ins) with the intention of working towards reaching the service plan goals
- Coordinate and attend monthly service team meetings with all the service providers and natural supports involved
- Locate and connect family members to community resources, especially within the C5 partnership and North East Edmonton
- Role modelling healthy boundaries and relationships with family members and collaborative community partners
- Build positive relationships with children, families, the North East Child and Family Services Neighborhood Office staff, and multi-disciplinary partners to better support families
- Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating the values of accountability, respect, and creativity
- Advocate on behalf of families, and teach self-advocacy
- Responsible for on-call services on a rotational basis
- Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation to track outcomes
Education: Social Work Diploma/Degree (Preferably a Registered Member of the Alberta College of Social Workers), or diploma/degree in related field. Candidates with extensive relevant experience will also be considered

- Ability to work with children and families from a range of cultures, additional languages to English would be an asset
- Understanding of early child development
- Ability to have difficult but respectful and ultimately constructive conversations with team members
- Ability to maintain boundaries
Experience and Knowledge:
- Three or more years working with families and experience conducting home visits and case management
- Understanding of Child and Family Services and guiding legislation
- Knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal and multicultural communities is essential, particularly how they have been affected by the child welfare system
- Experience working with partnerships and across sectors
- Knowledge of and experience working with local community resources in North East Edmonton
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Toxic Stress, and the Social Determinants of Health
- An understanding of poverty, racism, and marginalization and how and why it impacts those we serve
- An understanding of, and preferably experience with, the principles of Wraparound and Signs of Safety models
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, please note that transporting families in personal vehicle is required including some highway driving
- Criminal Record Check, Child Welfare Information System check, and Drivers Abstract completed within 6 months is required by start date (Note: Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks)
